ATLAS-T® pillow is designed for the purpose of repositioning a persons head and neck while laying on their back through elevation of the cervical spine while slightly extending the head and upper neck (cervico-cranial junction). The AXS is designed in order to maintain a certain angle (between 0 and 20 degrees) between the cervico-cranial junction (atlas and the occiput) to maximize airway openings to effect snoring and airflow while at rest. AIRWAY DESCRIPTION:

The two pictures to the left represent airway measurements of the same individual.  The person on the left is laying on a regular pillow, and the person on the right is laying on the ATLAS-T® Pillow. The black area with the green lines represents the airway. Notice the narrowing of the airways on the left vs. the opening of the airways on the right. This subject demonstrated a 62% improvement in their airway.

SOFT TISSUE DESCRIPTION:

The left two pictures represent airway measurements of the same individual.  The person on the left is laying on a regular pillow, and the person on the right is laying on the ATLAS-T® Pillow. The red lined area outlines the cervical muscles.  The regular pillow (left) shows tightening of the muscles when compared with the ATLAS-T® pillow (right) where the muscles have more “slack” in them.  Relaxed muscles tend to heal faster and allow for increased blood flow and nerve transmission, as compared to tight muscles which decrease blood flow and nerve transmission.(3,4)

CERVICAL LORDOSIS DESCRIPTION:

The above two pictures represent an analysis of the cervical lordosis of the same individual.  The person on the left is laying on a regular pillow, and the person on the right is laying on the ATLAS-t® Pillow. The regular pillow (left) demonstrates straightening of the neck curve and/or a kyphotic presentation, which is consistent with people who snore or that have obstructive sleep apnea. Notice the straightened line on the left, and the curved lines on the right. Research shows a decreased cervical lordosis AKA a straightened neck curve is gives people neck pain, morning headaches, and stresses ligaments/muscles.  Some people are sleeping in this position all night long and waking in a lot of discomfort.(3,4)
